Liner Notes
I first heard of Noel Pointer when Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen, producers of young guitarist Earl Klugh for Blue Note said..."Hey George, you have to hear a new, young, incredible violinist named Noel Pointer" I said, "Do you have anything On tape?" And they said, "Sure...15 ips 2 Track...7 1/2 ips 1/4 Track...or cassette." They played a demo tape for me and the result of that meeting became the reality of Noel Pointer's debut album.
When I checked into Noel's background I was amazed. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., began studying violin in the fourth grade...at the age of 13 he appeared as guest soloist with the Symphony Of The New World. While attending New York Music and Art High School, Noel expanded his musical horizon by performing as soloist with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Natural Essence Jazz Ensemble of New York. Noel went to New York's Manhattan School of Music for study and enhanced his professional ambition by appearing in concert with the Jackson Five, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Barry White—Love Unlimited tour, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Thelonius Monk, Hubert Laws, Jon Lucien, Newport Jazz Festival '"Music of Charlie Parker," Sammy Davis, Lena Horne-Tony Bennett Show and more.
Now I am proud to present the Debut Album of Mr. Noel Pointer.
— Dr. George Butler
